The Compass: Guiding Values

Humanity has always looked to the stars for direction. Constellations carry stories that help us understand the world and our place in it. Though names and meanings differ across cultures, the stars remind us of a shared truth: the sky belongs to all of us and its lights guide us just the same.

The Compass grounds its values in this universal tradition of storytelling and navigation. Each value is linked to a star or constellation that symbolizes the path we hope to walk together.

  1. Deneb – Kindness (Chinese)
    Pronounced DEH-neb
A guiding light in the story of the Weaver Girl and the Cowherd, Deneb represents compassion and connection across distance and hardship.

  2. Nut – Safety (Egyptian)
    Pronounced NOOT
The goddess of the sky, Nut stretched across the heavens to protect the world. She reminds us to create boundaries that keep our community safe.

  3. Justitia – Fairness (Roman)
    Pronounced joo-STIH-tee-ah
Linked to Libra and the scales of justice, Justitia represents fairness and equity, weighing choices carefully so every voice is honored.

  4. Vela – Growth (Polynesian)
    Pronounced VAY-lah
Part of the great canoe constellation, Vela symbolizes the sails that carried voyagers across the Pacific. It represents growth, courage, and discovery.

  5. Wičháŋpi Owíŋža – Inclusivity (Lakota)
    Pronounced wee-CHAH-pee oh-WEEN-zha
The Spirit Path, known today as the Milky Way, represents connection and belonging. It reminds us that all people walk the same sky-road together.

  6. Artio – Integrity (Celtic)
    Pronounced AHR-tee-oh
The bear goddess honored for strength and honesty, Artio’s spirit is reflected in Ursa Major and Ursa Minor. She stands for accountability and steadfast integrity.

These six values form the heart of The Compass. They are the stars we navigate by, guiding us toward kindness, safety, fairness, growth, inclusivity, and integrity in all that we do.
